In 2017, Imerys Graphite & Carbon produced its first bag of graphite in Namibia, only 13 months after the start of operations in the new Otjiwarongo mine.

"With the start of production, we are moving forward towards our goal to grow our natural graphite supply capacity and respond effectively to the increase in this industry's demand," says Hugues Jacquemin, Vice-President and General Manager of Imerys Graphite & Carbon.

Following recent market trends, demand for graphite has been growing significantly as sales of electric and hybrid vehicles have risen last year, increasing by more than 50%, with China now the world's largest market for electric vehicles (EV). In addition to Imerys Graphite & Carbon's Canadian natural flake graphite mine, the company's operations in Namibia are a solid reality, offering the reliability and responsibility of a great company, combined with the characteristics of this new graphite source, which reserves secure supply potentially for more than 20 years.
