On the morning of September 18th, Beijing time, the United States announced that it would impose tariffs on 200 billion US dollars of Chinese exports to the United States. The US government will impose a 10% tariff on 200 billion US dollars of Chinese exports to the United States from September 24, 2018. From January 1, 2019, the tax rate will increase to 25%.

The tax increase list covers 29 tax items for refractory materials, including 17 types of refractory raw materials and 12 types of refractory products. The trade protectionist tendencies of refractory products in the United States are very obvious.

The US tariff increase will cause significant losses to China's manufacturing industry, including the refractory industry. In response to the US government's move, China refractory industry association held a special conference on defending free trade and legal rights in Beijing on Sep. 26, 2018.The China Refractory Industry Association has decided to submit a written document to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to recommend the collection or increase of export tariffs on refractory raw materials exported to the United States to protect the healthy development of the domestic refractory industry.

The unilateral trade protectionism by the United States has caused strong dissatisfaction in China's refractory industry.China Refractory Industry Association will encourage enterprises to respond positively and give counter-measures.
